Seven O’clock

The fog clears abruptly,
Out of the water, comes a
Little fellow who repaints
Themselves with charcoal

Our surprise meeting
Is oppressed by strangeness
Those that leave at this time
Have all been signed off and rushed off

I bring along a baby bottle
To meet with a person
That'll be meeting the world for the first time
On a path that brings us closer

You eye the new world with wonder
I too shall remember this strangeness

In this vast world
She uses her charcoal eyes
To capture and distinguish her
Family

Clenching the Stone

Time sinks deep in the afternoon
Things slip out of me slowly and
Start to gather around a piece of stone
Solidifying the sun's reluctant departure

She grasps and clenches, trying to hold
A handful of all the warmth she could
It's the third day of her stay, in this cold icy world
Curling up into the earliest memories
Her hands smaller than a sparrow's claw
Unable to grasp a piece of the shimmering sun

The Conversation

Silently, into your little body it dives
Storing, a dream and a future

This morning is for you, so is this sun
So is the dullness of my fountain pen
The ebb and flow of a piece of poem
Cups, stamps, books and a riverbank
The corner that's closest to the sun in this room
They are all for you
Come join me in the days I spent with the wind
In a wooden house in Xiguan
Listening to stories, playing the piano
And living alongside piles of old wood
On polished tiles, playing hopscotch and skipping rubber bands
One summer day, in our yard, I was digging inside the well
And what I shouted to the deep, fathomless sky
The water still remembers
